About Me
Welcome to InSpires Wellness, owned and operated by me, Summer Spires! I’m a licensed and registered dietitian nutritionist in the Orlando area.
Professional Background: I have worked in a variety of settings including:
-
An inpatient trauma and rehabilitation center in Chicago
-
A diabetes self-management outpatient center in North Carolina
-
Eating disorder and substance use disorder residential treatment facilities in Florida
Additionally, I spent almost a decade in corporate America as a leader of clinical quality for a major health insurance company.
Educational Background: I received my bachelor’s degree in nutrition and Dietetics from Northern Illinois University and my master’s degree in nutrition from Appalachian State University.
Certifications and Motivations: To further my training as a dietitian, I earned my title as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. This motivation stems from my mother, who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at a young age.
Holistic Approach: I am deeply spiritual and have pursued holistic healing modalities for myself. As a highly sensitive and empathetic individual, I seek tools to support my own nervous system regulation. I quickly realized that the tools I was learning—such as yoga, sound and energy healing, breathwork, and meditation—could also benefit my clients. Nervous system regulation is closely connected to our nutrition and how foods make us feel. As such, I am a trained yoga teacher and incorporate yoga and mindfulness into my sessions.
Nutrition Philosophy: My approach to nutrition therapy is through a non-diet, weight-neutral, and "all foods can fit" model. I believe that everybody and every body deserves a healthy relationship with food and Self. In a world obsessed with appearances, we often forget that true health is rooted in behaviors and impacts our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. My sessions evaluate all domains of health, focusing on overall well-being. I assist clients with individual nutrition goals, mindful eating, food challenges, and exploring thoughts and beliefs associated with food.
